Hong Kong is the starting point for a tropical stage, leading through the rainforest to Laos and Thailand. Before we reach the Golden Triangle we must face the Mekong, an apparently insurmountable obstacle. The way this adventure is overcome will provide material for exciting discussions all the way to Bangkok.

Stage for the day: Luang Namta – Houan Sai (200 km), cross the paddy fields near Luang Namta, travel through Bokeo province, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Houan Sai

Stage for the day: Houan Sai – Chiang Khong, cross the border from Laos into Thailand including a hazardous ferry journey across the Mekong river (each vehicle has to be taken over the river separately), dinner together and overnight in hotel in Chiang Khong

Stage for the day: Chiang Khong – Chiang Mai (350 km), follow the legendary "Golden Triangle": Thailand-Myanmar-Laos, visit the night market in Chiang Mai, overnight in hotel in Chiang Mai

Stage for the day: Chiang Mai – Khlong-Lan National Park (380 km), drive into Khlong Lan National Park to see the Khlong Lan waterfall, camp overnight in the National Park
