Jungle adventure

The Thais call Bangkok the "city of angels". It is the ideal starting point for an archaeological and ethnological expedition into the Thai wilderness to discover unique destinations such as the limestone caves of Chiang Dao, the Khmer temples in Phimai Historical Park or the indigenous Karen people in Ban Watchan.

The Bangkok-Bangkok stage

Day 1

Individual arrival in Bangkok, sightseeing in Bangkok, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Bangkok

Day 2

Stage for the day: Bangkok – Pa Dong (400 km), organizational matters/vehicle instruction, travel to the bridge over the River Kwai, visit the seven Erawan waterfalls in the Erawan National Park, cross the Sri Nakhari National Park, camp overnight near Pa Dong

Day 3

Stage for the day: Pa Dong – Mae Sot (500 km), drive into Khlong Lan National Park to see the Khlong Lan waterfall, mountain and valley drives with 1,100 sharp bends from Umphang to the border town of Mae Sot, camp overnight near Mae Sot

Day 4

Stage for the day: Mae Sot – Pai (450 km), visit the Wat Don Keao Buddha and the hot springs near Mae Hu, travel to Mae Surin National Park with Thailand's tallest waterfall, Mae Surin, overnight in bungalows in Pai

Day 5

Free time, optional day trips in Pai: elephant ride or rafting*, overnight in bungalows in Pai

Day 6

Stage for the day: Pai – Chiang Mai (130 km), hot springs at Thapai, visit the Karen village of Ban Watchan (Karen is the name of the indigenous people of South-East Asia living in the mountains of Thailand), visit the night market in Chiang Mai, overnight in hotel in Chiang Mai

Day 7

Stage for the day: Chiang Mai – Mae Chan (260 km), travel to the Chiang Dao caves, visit the Young Elephants Training Center incl. show*, visit the Golden Buddha-Statue in Thatong, camp overnight near Mae Chan

Day 8

Stage for the day: Mae Chan – Nan (410 km), follow the legendary "Golden Triangle": Thailand-Myanmar-Laos along the Mekong, Wat Phumin Temple in Nan, camp overnight near Nan

Day 9

Stage for the day: Nan – Chiang Khan (400 km), impressive day's drive through the Louang Phrabang range, visit the temple in Chiang Khan, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Chiang Khan

Day 10

Stage for the day: Chian Khan – Ubon Ratan dam (380 km), along the Mekong to the sandstone formations of the Phu Pra Bat Historical Park to the Ubon Rat dam, camp overnight at the dam

Day 11

Stage for the day: Ubon Ratan dam – Phimai (240 km), Khmer temples in Phimai Historical Park, dinner together, overnight in hotel in Phimai

Day 12

Stage for the day: Phimai – Bangkok (300 km), travel to the ruins of Ayutthaya Temple, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Bangkok
