Across the Gobi Desert

After a few days in Beijing and other historic places of advanced Chinese civilization, a particular challenge awaits the participants on this stage: the Gobi Desert! On the journey to places which are rarely visited - like Vulture Gorge or the Khuislin Naiman Nuur National Park - the whole of the mysterious majesty of this desert landscape becomes apparent.

The Beijing - Ulan Bator stage

Day 1

Individual arrival in Beijing, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Beijing

Day 2

Organizational matters/vehicle instruction, sightseeing in Beijing, including Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the old city of Beijing, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Beijing

Day 3

Stage for the day: Beijing – Datong (330 km), visit the Great Wall of China at Badaling, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Datong

Day 4

Day trip to the Hanging Monasteries on the Hengsthan mountain, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Datong

Day 5

Stage for the day: Datong – Jining (150 km), visit the Yungang Caves declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (Buddhist cave temples), dinner together and overnight in hotel in Jining

Day 6

Stage for the day: Jining – Mongolian border (360 km), cross the border from China into Mongolia, camp overnight in the border area

Day 7

Stage for the day: border area – Mandakh (420 km), camp overnight near Mandakh

Day 8

Stage for the day: Mandakh – Dalandzagad (380 km), travel through the eastern part of the Gobi Desert, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Dalandzagad

Day 9

Stage for the day: Dalandzagad – Gobi Desert (420 km), visit Vulture Gorge, camp overnight by the Gobi Desert

Day 10

Stage for the day: Gobi Desert – Khuislin Naiman Nuur National Park (270 km), travel along the foothills of the Gobi Desert, overnight in a yurt camp by the National Park

Day 11

Stage for the day: Khuislin Naiman Nuur National Park – Karakorum (180 km), travel to the Orchon waterfall, overnight in a yurt camp near Karakorum

Day 12

Stage for the day: Karakorum – Ulan Bator (380 km), visit the town of Karakorum (UNESCO World Heritage Site), dinner together and overnight in hotel in Ulan Bator

Day 13

Sightseeing in Ulan Bator incl. SuchBaator Square and Gandan monastery, afternoon free, optional visit to an evening cultural event*, overnight in hotel in Ulan Bator

Day 14

Independent departure from Ulan Bator
