Deserts and petrified forests

This stage reaches Ulan Bator. Before the legendary city appears on the horizon, the Gobi Desert, the petrified forest of Ulaan Shand and a night in a Mongolian yurt will provide experiences for participants in XWORLD which are open to very few Westerners.

A summary of the stage

The Urumqi-Ulan Bator stage

Day 1

Individual arrival in Urumqi, organizational matters/vehicle instruction, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Urumqi

Day 2

Stage for the day: Urumqi – Tian Chi (110 km), travel through a great variety of nature to Tian Chi - "Heaven Lake", opportunity for an excursion on horseback*, overnight in yurts by the lake

Day 3

Stage for the day: Tian Chi – Jiangjunmiao (230 km), travel along the Bogda Shan range of mountains, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Jiangjunmiao

Day 4

Stage for the day: Jiangjunmiao – Ulastay (330 km), travel through the Chinese steppes, camp overnight near Ulastay (area bordering Mongolia)

Day 5

Stage for the day: Ulastay – Altay Mountains (220 km), cross the border from China into Mongolia, travel through the Altay Mountains on quiet tracks, camp overnight in the Altay Mountains

Day 6

Stage for the day: Altay Mountains – Altay (220 km), travel through the Altay Mountains, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Altay

Day 7

Stage for the day: Altay – Chandmani (210 km), travel through the Mongolian steppes and camp overnight near Chandmani

Day 8

Stage for the day: Chandmani – Gobi Desert (380 km), travel through the Gobi Desert and the petrified forest of Ulaan Shand, visit the rock paintings at Bayanling, overnight in a yurt camp in the Gobi Desert

Day 9

Stage for the day: Gobi Desert – Dalandzagad (410 km), visit Vulture Gorge in Gurvansaikhan National Park, overnight in a yurt camp near Dalandzagad

Day 10

Stage for the day: Dalandzagad – Mandalgobi (350 km), travel along the Moltsog Els sand dunes, camp overnight near Mandalgobi

Day 11

Stage for the day: Mandalgobi – Ulan Bator (250 km), dinner together, overnight in hotel in Ulan Bator

Day 12

Sightseeing in Ulan Bator incl. SuchBaator Square and Gandan monastery, free time, optional visit to an evening cultural event*, overnight in hotel in Ulan Bator

Day 13

Individual departure from Ulan Bator
