Stage 29: Chengdu to Lhasa
5 to 15 April 2009
Between China and Tibet
Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, is the objective of this stage. The road leads out of the Red Basin of the Sichuan province of China, higher and higher over breathtaking passes and past ancient monasteries until the moment when the mighty ancient palace of the Dalai Lama appears before participants in the expedition.

Day 1
Individual arrival in Chengdu, organizational matters/vehicle instruction, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Chengdu
Day 2
Sightseeing in Chengdu including the temple precincts of Chengdu (Wenshu Yuan Temple), visit the Giant Panda reserve near Chengdu, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Chengdu
Day 3
Stage for the day: Chengdu – Leshan (230 km), visit the holy mountain Emeishan, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Leshan
Day 4
Stage for the day: Leshan – Kangding (320 km), visit the Great Buddha of Leshan, overnight in a simple guesthouse near Kangding
Day 5
Stage for the day: Kangding – Litang (290 km), winding roads will take the route continuously up onto the Tibetan plateau, overnight in a simple guesthouse near Litang
Day 6
Stage for the day: Litang – Batang (210 km), visit the monastery city of Litang built of clay tiles, dinner together and overnight in a guesthouse in Batang
Day 7
Stage for the day: Batang – Baxoi (420 km), cross the provincial border into Tibet, cross the Dungd La Pass (5,008 m), overnight in a simple guesthouse near Baxoi
Day 8
Stage for the day: Baxoi – Linzhi (450 km), cross the Serkhyim La Pass (4,515 m), overnight in a simple guesthouse in Linzhi
Day 9
Stage for the day: Linzhi – Lhasa (430 km), travel past Tibetan monasteries, cross the Mi La Pass (4,000 m), dinner together and overnight in hotel in Lhasa
Day 10
Sightseeing in Lhasa, including the Potala Palace and Lhasa's ancient city, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Lhasa
