On the trail of the East Indies

Tobacco, coffee, spices: for centuries, the Dutch East India Company organized its global trade from Java. This stage traces its course and discovers savannah, mangrove swamps, active volcanoes, rushing waterfalls, temples, deserted beaches and last but not least, the beauties of the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

A summary of the stage

The Jakarta-Jakarta stage

Day 1

Individual arrival in Jakarta, organizational matters/vehicle instruction, sightseeing in Jakarta including Pasar Burung bird market, dinner together and overnight in a hotel in Jakarta

Day 2

Morning and afternoon free, optional tour of the islands by speedboat from Jakarta with various activities (golf, snorkelling, diving, relaxing)*, dinner together and overnight in a hotel in Jakarta

Day 3

Stage for the day: Jakarta – Slawi (300 km), travel along the North-West coast of Java, visit the hot springs at Slawi, camp overnight near Slawi

Day 4

Stage for the day: Slawi – Solo (340 km), travel past the eight Hindu temples of Dieng Plateau to Lake Telaga Warna, cross the Kledung Pass, camp overnight near Solo

Day 5

Stage for the day: Solo – Mt. Bromo (370 km), travel through the volcanic area of Bromo, camp overnight at Mt. Bromo (2,329 m)

Day 6

Stage for the day: Mt. Bromo – Sempol (150 km), sunrise over Mt. Bromo, through the volcanic region to Gunung Penanjakan, coffee plantations in Ijen Plateau surrounded by the volcanic mountains of Gunung Raung (3,332 m), Gunung Suket (2,950 m) and Gunung Merapi (2,800 m), dinner together and overnight in hotel near Sempol

Day 7

Stage for the day: Sempol – Pacitan (450 km), visit the beach at Pacitan on the Indian Ocean, visit the caves at Pacitan, camp overnight near Pacitan

Day 8

Stage for the day: Pacitan – Yogyakarta (250 km), travel along the black beach of Parangtritis, visit the temple complex of Borobudur, support program and overnight in hotel in Yogyakarta

Day 9

Stage for the day: Yogyakarta – Baturaden (180 km), stay and overnight in hotel in the resort of Baturaden

Day 10

Stage for the day: Baturaden – Badung (180 km), travel through the impressive mountain landscape of central Java, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Badung

Day 11

Day trip in the Badung area, travelling to the crater of Tangkuban Prahu volcano, to the hot springs of Ciater and to the Maribaya waterfall, dinner together and overnight in hotel in Badung

Day 12

Stage for the day: Badung – Jakarta (190 km), cross the Puncak Pass, visit the Botanical Gardens in Bogor

Day 13

Sightseeing and individual departures from Jakarta
